O CREW, a project developed by LIPOR in partnership with ERP Portugal (European Recycling Platform in Portugal), repaired 76 electrical and electronic equipment during the first half of its activity, preventing the production of more than 353 kilograms of waste, according to a press release.
According to the same source, the initiative, which aims to recover the knowledge and skills associated with repair, registered 258 equipment items for assessment of the repair potential, with a total weight exceeding 1.2 tonnes, through the CREW network of centers, which includes LIPOR, UFGVJ, EcoPorto and E2OV.
Of the evaluated equipment, 76 were effectively repaired, enabling the avoidance of the production of 353.628 kilograms of electrical and electronic equipment waste (WEEE). Small equipment represented the majority, followed by large equipment, computer equipment, and televisions and monitors.
In addition to the centers’ activity, CREW promoted 12 Repair Café sessions in different locations and with several partners. The initiatives gathered 124 participants, who dedicated, in total, 36 hours to collaborative equipment repair.
During these sessions, 124 equipment items were recorded, of which 66 were repaired successfully. The intervention prevented a further 307.098 kilograms of waste, with small equipment again representing the majority, followed by computer equipment and, occasionally, televisions and monitors.
