APAL Launches National Campaign to Promote Aluminum Can Recycling

June 26, 2026

The Portuguese Aluminum Association (APAL) has launched a new national awareness campaign for the recycling of aluminum cans, reinforcing its commitment to the value of this material throughout its life cycle. Under the motto “Give Rhythm to the Planet,” the initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of properly recycling aluminum packaging, highlighting its potential for infinite reuse without loss of quality, as announced in a press release.

According to the same source, in a context where the circular economy is gaining increasing relevance in sustainability strategies, APAL intends to convey a clear message: all aluminum has value. From its industrial use to consumer packaging used at festivals, beaches, or events, each can represents a resource that can be recovered and reintegrated into the production chain.

One of the campaign’s main messages is that a can of aluminum consumed today can return to the market in the form of a new can in just a few weeks. The association emphasizes that this characteristic makes aluminum one of the most environmentally efficient materials, contributing to the reduction of raw material extraction and to the preservation of natural resources.

According to José Dias, president of APAL, the initiative seeks to highlight the enormous potential of aluminum as an “infinitely recyclable” material, regardless of its different compositions and applications. The official also stresses that “we can consume without ‘consuming’ the planet, and that message is fundamental for the economic and ecological sustainability of the planet.”

Present at various moments of social gatherings and leisure, from music festivals to gatherings among friends, the aluminum can is part of the daily life of millions of consumers. However, the association notes, its true value is realized only when it is properly directed to recycling.

Through simple language and visually appealing messaging, the campaign explains the steps required to ensure the recycling of packaging: finish the drink, empty the can, and deposit it at the recycling point. A simple gesture that allows reintegrating aluminum into the value chain, avoiding waste and promoting a more efficient use of resources.

Under the creative concept “Every Can Counts,” the campaign also aims to reinforce the idea that the transition to a more circular economy depends not only on the available infrastructure but also on citizens’ daily choices. By recycling their cans, consumers directly contribute to extending the life of materials and turning waste into new resources.

The campaign will be developed exclusively in digital format, a choice that, according to APAL, will maximize the reach of the communication and reduce the environmental impact associated with the campaign itself, avoiding the production of physical materials.

With this initiative, the association reinforces its role in promoting good environmental practices and in valuing aluminum as a strategic material for a more sustainable economy, reminding that every recycled can can become a new can again and that every individual gesture can contribute to a more circular planet.
