The yellow heat warning has been extended in the Bragança and Vila Real districts until the end of Sunday, a day on which it will also extend to most of the remaining regions, IPMA announced.
According to the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA), due to the persistence of high maximum temperatures, the districts of Bragança and Vila Real in the north of the country, and Guarda and Castelo Branco in the center, are already under a yellow warning, the least severe on a three-tier scale, with Bragança and Vila Real remaining under yellow until 18:00.
While Bragança and Vila Real will remain under yellow warning until 00:00 on Monday, Guarda and Castelo Branco will only return to yellow warning from 09:00 on Sunday until midnight, as well as the districts of Viseu, Évora, Porto, Setúbal, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Lisboa, Leiria, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga.
On the mainland, only the Faro district (Algarve) escapes any weather-related risk situation.
The yellow warning indicates a risk situation for certain activities that depend on the weather, requiring people to stay attentive to the evolution of meteorological conditions.
IPMA forecast for today was for a mostly clear sky or lightly cloudy, with periods of more cloudiness along the western coast until mid-morning, with a possibility of drizzle, and that may persist in some locations north of Cabo Raso.
There was also forecast a temporary increase in cloudiness in the interior North and Center during the afternoon, with the possibility of scattered showers and thunder, more likely in the mountain ranges in the far north, in addition to a small decrease in the maximum temperature.
