The Alentejo 2030 programme opened a call for proposals to support interventions for the environmental restoration of abandoned quarries in the region, which has three million euros of European Union funds, it was revealed today.
In a press release, the Alentejo Coordination and Regional Development Commission (CCDR) announced that the call notice “Environmental Liabilities: Quarries in Critical Condition” has three million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), with a maximum co-financing rate of 85%.
The initiative is aimed at supporting environmental restoration interventions for abandoned quarries located in the Alentejo region.
The objective is to promote “rehabilitation and environmental regeneration actions of degraded areas, contributing to the enhancement of the territory, the conservation of nature and the strengthening of biodiversity,” reads the press release.
“The operations to be supported should ensure the environmental recovery of quarries in a critical condition, through interventions that promote their ecological and landscape requalification, mitigating the environmental impacts associated with the abandonment of these operations,” specified the CCDR of Alentejo.
Applications are open to central public administration entities and local administration, as well as to other public administration entities with competencies in this area.
The call for proposals has 10 application stages, the first of which ends on the 31st of this month and the last closes on 31 May 2027.
