1. Social Media: Going Viral Against HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections, 7 December 2010 - New York, USA

2. US and European Philanthropic Support to Address HIV/AIDS in 2009 - UNAIDS

The two reports, released on 16 November, show that HIV/AIDS-related funding from European and US philanthropic donors was US$ 738 million in 2009, a slight decrease from $ 752 million the previous year. The findings are being released amidst a continued economic recession, flat or declining funding from governments and a growing need for increased HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services.

VACANCIES

1. Chief, HIV/AIDS, United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) - Yangon, Myanmar

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership, management, coordinate and monitor the implementation of HIV and childrens programmes, especially on the prevention of HIV among youth and women, prevention of mother-to-child transmission & paediatric care, as well as children affected by AIDS, at national and sub-national levels
  • Collaborate with UNAIDS and various thematic and technical working groups and sub-groups to support the National AIDS Programme and other implementing partners to identify, develop and implement appropriate strategies, approaches and plans, which directly contribute to the achievement of UNICEF's priority actions for children affected by HIV and AIDS
  • Work closely with other sections in UNICEF, especially Health and Nutrition, Child Protection and Programme Communication to develop, implement and co-ordinate an appropriate HIV/AIDS response within the country programme, including development and implementation of communication strategy and social mobilization initiatives to promote HIV/AIDS awareness, behaviour change, anti-natal care, respect and support for children and young people affected by AIDS
  • Effectively promote UNICEF's global goals through advocacy and policy dialogue in the HIV/AIDS sector, build partnership and collaboration with wide range of partners, provide technical guidance and coordinate external technical support when necessary for developing strategy, standards and coherent response within Myanmar context for prevention, care and protection for children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in UNICEF country programme and in the National Strategic Plan, 2011-15
  • Lead the preparation and contribute to UNICEF overall planning processes such CPD/CPAP, updating and reporting based on the Simplified Results Structure


Requirements:

  • Advanced University Degree in Medicine or in Social Sciences; degree in public health preferably; MPH required
  • Eight years progressively more responsible professional work experience in social development, project administration, monitoring and evaluation, some of which at the international level
  • Previous work with HIV/AIDS required, with a strong emphasis on skills in communication for behaviour development and modification
  • Fluency in English and another UN language. Knowledge of local language of the duty station an asset

2. Physician Specialist, HIV Care and Support, Botswana-University of Pennsylvania Partnership - Gaborone, Botswana

Responsibilities:

  • Provision of adult outreach services to the various Districts
  • Maintained collaborations with Ministry of Health staff at Princess Marina Hospital and in the various districts
  • Increased collaborations with University of Botswana's Department of Medicine
  • Accurate and timely recording of programme indicators
  • Participation in the development of continuing medical education lectures
  • Participation in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of national medical guidelines


Requirements:

  • Medical degree
  • Post-graduate training with board certification in speciality
  • At least six months' cumulative experience working in a multicultural environment with limited resources, experience in Sub-Saharan Africa preferred, with experience in Botswana desired
  • Experience in training and managing aspects of HIV and opportunistic infections, with at least 12 months practical experience
