1. AIDS Ride 2010, Mexico City to Vienna, 7 June-18 July 2010 - Mexico City, Mexico

Through the use of a hot air balloon as a vehicle to increase public and media attention, AIDS Ride 2010 aims to raise funds for various HIV-related issues, including stigma and discrimination and HIV prevention.

2. 2010 Progress Reports on the 2001 Declaration of Commitment - UNAIDS

In adopting the 2001 Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS, Member States committed themselves to regularly report on their progress in responding to HIV to the General Assembly. Countries recently made their official submissions to the UNAIDS Secretariat, which are now available to the public.

VACANCIES

1. Participation Consultant, HIV/AIDS Community Conversations, International Rescue Committee (IRC) - Ethiopia

Responsibilities:

  • Based on existing drafts, complete the Module 3 (Phase 1) field manual of the HIV Community Conversations process for the host community;
  • Based on existing drafts, complete the Module 3 (Phase 1) field manual of the HIV Community Conversations process for the refugee community;
  • Produce corresponding training notes (training facilitation notes for use by trainers) and practical organization notes (notes to assist CC Supervisors to implement Module 3 sessions);
  • If relevant, revise the general CC implementation guidelines (guidelines applying to all CC processes that provide guidance on general issues such as how to form and manage groups, etc) to reflect lessons learned by the IRC Participation Unit staff during implementation of Module 3 (Phase 1) of the HIV CC process;
  • Provide technical support on participatory methodologies and behaviour change strategies on issues related to HIV/AIDS to the IRC Ethiopia Health Sector.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in relevant field preferred;
  • Bachelors degree required;
  • Previous experience in developing implementation tools using participatory methodologies required;
  • Experience working in Ethiopia preferred.

2. Deputy Chief of Party, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation - Kigali, Rwanda

Responsibilities:

  • Work in close collaboration with the Chief of Party (COP) and serve as a key member of the programme management team;
  • Oversee the programme management and provide strategic guidance and leadership to the team;
  • Lead the technical strategy, the coordination and implementation of the project activities and ensure that they are integrated, synergized, and of the highest technical quality;
  • Directly supervise the team leads and technical experts and provide programmatic and technical guidance so as to facilitate an integrated and coordinated project strategy and implementation;
  • Play a strong role in the development of innovative, effective, context-appropriate approaches including best practices;
  • Support the COP to manage key relationships with the US Agency for International Development; the Ministry of Health and its relevant institutions; the project team; international and local implementing and community partners; regional, district, and facility health staff; and other stakeholders;
  • Play a strong role in the project's provision of technical support to the Ministry of Health and the relevant health institutions;
  • Provide assistance to the COP in the project reporting and ensuring compliance with the rules and regulations governing the USAID funding mechanism.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or Doctorate in Public Health, public administration, development or related discipline and/or medical degree;
  • At least 15 years of experience in a senior level management position in a public health and/or international development project with responsibility implementing or managing large complex programmes in HIV and AIDS, maternal and child health, family planning/reproductive health, community health in developing countries;
  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership to senior level staff.
  • At least five years experience and demonstrated leadership working with PEPFAR-funded health projects and experience with USAID reporting systems;
  • Strong technical programme management, organizational and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to lead and manage a sizeable cross cultural team;
  • Familiarity with all levels of the Rwandan health sector, including health sector reform and decentralization;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; fluency in English, professional proficiency in French required, proficiency in Kinyarwanda an advantage;
  • Work experience in East Africa preferred.
