The Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL) announced today the approval of a project to modernize water management through smart technologies in water supply networks, in an investment of more than nine million euros.
The candidature Intelligence in the Lower Algarve’s Urban Water Cycle, promoted by AMAL and by the managing entities, was approved within the framework of the ALGARVE 2030 program, the association that brings together the 16 municipalities of the Faro district said in a press release.
The project represents an eligible investment of over nine million euros, of which around six million are financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the entity specified.
The initiative aims to reinforce the efficiency and sustainability of water resource management, through the installation and integration of smart equipment and telemetry platforms in the water supply networks.
According to AMAL, the new technologies will enable improved collection, transmission and processing of data related to water consumption and flows, contributing to a more effective management of the systems.
Among the main objectives are the identification of anomalous consumption and water leaks, the reduction of manual procedures, support for the development of water balances, and the strengthening of the decision-making capacity of the managing entities.
The implementation of these systems will allow for faster detection of water losses and instances of irregular consumption, contributing to reducing waste and improving the quality of service provided to consumers, the note states.
The operation involves AMAL and the managing entities of the Algarve’s water supply systems, in a regional initiative that aims to respond to the challenges of water efficiency and sustainability.
