The 4th edition of the seminar “Sustainable Agriculture – Models for a Productive and Resilient Future” will take place next Friday, the 26th, in Torres Vedras, bringing together female researchers, businesswomen and sector stakeholders to discuss sustainable agricultural practices and resilient production models.
The initiative, promoted by the Torres Vedras City Council as part of the São Pedro Fair, will take place between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM at the Expotorres Pavilion.
According to the city council, the seminar aims to highlight agricultural models that reconcile productivity with ecosystem regeneration, focusing on topics such as soil conservation, biodiversity, water management, and carbon sequestration.
This year’s edition will be dedicated to the role of women in agriculture, in reference to the United Nations declaration designating 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer.
According to the organizers, the aim is to recognize the contribution of women to agro-food systems and rural development, through the sharing of scientific knowledge and practical experience with local impact and global relevance.
The opening session will include an address by the vice-president of the Torres Vedras City Council, Diogo Guia.
The first panel will be devoted to agricultural practices, community engagement and innovation in territories for sustainable agro-food systems, with contributions from Inês Costa Pereira, researcher at the Agricultural Engineering School of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, and Marta Cortegano, project coordinator at ESDIME and co-founder of Terra Sintrópica.
After a break, a round table will take place on the theme “Local agro-food systems: reconciling farming, production and ecosystem regeneration,” with participants Ana Carvalho of Vivid Farms, Ana Luísa of Talho das Manas, Luísa Almeida of Quinta do Arneiro, and Tânia Carvalho of Lugar da Terra.
The seminar ends with a convivial moment among the participants, accompanied by a wine tasting.
Participation is free, subject to prior registration through the Torres Vedras City Hall’s website.
