Sotecnisol Engenharia e Ambiente, a company of the Sotecnisol Group, a reference in the Construction, Environment, Energy, Water and Agro‑industry sectors, is the company behind the execution of the project for the new ApR (Water for Reuse) conveyance system at the Loures Stadium, as disclosed in a statement.
According to the same source, with an investment of 836 thousand euros, this work will enable the sports complex to replace potable water consumption from the public network with treated water from the Fábrica de Água de Frielas for non-potable uses, such as turf irrigation.
The project consists of linking the Fábrica de Água de Frielas and the Estádio de Loures via two HDPE (High‑Density Polyethylene) pipes that extend over 2.2 kilometres. Installed concurrently and in parallel alignment, one of the conduits is intended for the stadium’s immediate supply, while the second, larger‑diameter, was designed to respond to future needs for irrigating green spaces and other public uses in the region, enhancing the municipality’s water resilience.
Given the urban and environmental setting, the project requires solutions of high technical complexity. In the initial phase, Sotecnisol Engenharia e Ambiente will perform a targeted horizontal directional drilling with about 100 metres in length. This trenchless engineering technique will enable an underground crossing beneath the bed of the Ribeira da Póvoa, near the Fábrica de Água de Frielas, safeguarding the integrity of the waterway and the local biodiversity.
“The execution of this system demonstrates how specialized engineering can support the intelligent management of resources. In collaboration with Águas do Tejo Atlântico, we are building an infrastructure that meets the stadium’s current needs, while at the same time keeping the network prepared for the region’s future growth,” stated José Luís Castro, CEO of the Sotecnisol Group.
Along the new route, extending over more than two kilometres, the construction of several valve chambers equipped with electromechanical systems is planned, which will enable real-time monitoring and will reinforce the safety of the pipeline. In the final phase of the works, the connection to the Loures Stadium will be made by fixing and suspending the pipework on the underside of the viaduct of Avenida das Descobertas, ensuring a safe, discreet urban integration and no impact on local road traffic.
