Nabeiro Group Maintains Leadership in Portugal’s Corporate Reputation for Sixth Consecutive Year

November 6, 2026

The Nabeiro Group is the company with the best reputation in Portugal, and Rui Miguel Nabeiro leads the ranking of the most reputable managers, positions that both have held for the sixth consecutive year. The results are part of the seventh edition of Merco Empresas e Líderes Portugal, presented this Thursday, which assesses the reputation of companies and their leaders through surveys of different groups of experts and members of society.

In the top 10 of companies, Mercadona occupies third place, followed by Caixa Geral de Depósitos, which rises to fourth position. EDP appears in fifth place, Jerónimo Martins in seventh and CUF in eighth, after a jump of 13 positions. Galp takes ninth, and Continente closes the list in tenth. The ranking also highlights the weight of generalist distribution, with three companies among the top ten, and the energy sector, represented by two.

Among the companies with the largest progressions in the top 100, L’Oréal rose 38 positions, to the 19th place, while Endesa advanced 32 places, to 41st. Vista Alegre entered directly at 36th place. In total, the ranking records 13 new entries and 17 rises of more than ten positions.

Also in the leaders’ ranking there are two new entries in the top 10: Paulo Pereira da Silva, from Renova, in ninth place, and António Portela, from BIAL, in tenth. Rui Miguel Nabeiro maintains the leadership, while Rita Nabeiro occupies seventh position. Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade, from EDP, appears in fifth place, and Paula Amorim, from Galp, in sixth.

This year’s edition records 14 new entries in the top 100 of leaders and 19 rises of more than ten positions. Manuela Medeiros, from Parfois, spearheaded the biggest rise, advancing 47 places to 36th position. Leonor Freitas, from Casa Ermelinda Freitas, holds 38th place after rising 26 positions, reinforcing the female presence among the 50 most reputable leaders.

Merco also identifies a relationship between the reputation of companies and that of their leaders. According to Enrique Mañas, general director of the monitor, six of the ten most reputable leaders run companies that also belong to the top 10 in corporate reputation. The official considers that there is a “virtuous circle between corporate leadership and the personal leadership of those who run the companies”.

The analysis, however, points to areas where companies and their managers can improve. In the assessment of the executives, branding and the commercial offer are attributes recognized in companies, while labor quality, digital transformation and artificial intelligence emerge as opportunities for improvement. For leaders, strategic vision is the main strength, but communication skills and social and environmental responsibility show room for evolution.

The seventh edition of Merco Empresas Portugal was based on 3,630 surveys and 18 information sources. Data collection took place between June and October and involved business executives, financial analysts, journalists, university professors, representatives of non-governmental organizations, trade unions, consumer associations, public administration, university students and citizens. The analysis also included more than 415,000 digital mentions and benchmarking of 29 objective indicators of companies.
