LIPOR Develops Three New Technological Solutions to Accelerate the Circular Economy

October 2, 2026

LIPOR is strengthening its commitment to technological innovation as a tool to promote smarter, more efficient, and more participatory resource management. Under the CircularTech Consortium, funded under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), the organization developed three new solutions: the RFID Bracelet, the ReCompensa App, and the Conditional Access System, as announced in a press release.

According to the same source, with distinct applications, the three technologies share a common objective: to use innovation to address concrete challenges of the circular economy, creating solutions with potential for implementation with municipalities, businesses, and citizens.

Developed in partnership with NEVOA Technologies, the RFID Bracelet enables improved monitoring of operations through a wrist-worn RFID reader device. The solution increases flexibility in the collection and processing of operational data, contributing to more efficient traceability systems and to the reduction of associated costs.

The ReCompensa App puts citizen participation at the center of innovation. Through gamification, the application encourages sustainable daily choices, linking them to rewards such as access to courses at the LIPOR Academy, products, and workshops. The experience can be personalized according to the municipality of residence, reinforcing the link between citizens, municipalities, and LIPOR. The technology is also ready to be made available to other entities that wish to implement participation and reward solutions associated with sustainability and resource management.

The Conditional Access System bets on smart solutions for deposition near homes. The containers are equipped with electronic locks and are for the exclusive use of residents, accessed via an electronic identifier. The project started in the municipalities of Vila do Conde, Valongo, Gondomar, and Póvoa de Varzim, initially covering 527 housing units, allowing testing of a collection model that is closer, controlled, and tailored to communities.

With these three solutions, LIPOR demonstrates how technology can contribute to transforming resource management, acting in different dimensions: better monitoring, encouraging sustainable behaviors, and making collection systems smarter.

The development of these technologies is part of LIPOR’s strategy to promote innovation and the circular economy, leveraging the CircularTech Consortium framework and funding to transform challenges into concrete solutions, with the potential to generate value for territories and for society.
