The reforestation of Quinta da Nogueira, in Seia, aims to create a CineEco Forest with native species so that, within a few years, it can host a natural auditorium, built with the landscape itself, where some of CineEco’s films could be shown, as disclosed in a press release.
According to the same source, the first step was taken on Sunday morning, October 11, with the presence of the Environment and Sustainability council, technicians from the Serra da Estrela Interpretation Center, filmmakers, programmers, technicians from the municipal administration, and festival guests. Thirty-two specimens of native species (pilriteiros, azereiros, birches and tramazeiras) were planted on land being converted for leisure and public use, one for each CineEco edition.
This action also helps mitigate the impact of the presence of guests through a tangible and verifiable result on the ground. It also inaugurates a cycle that the festival will resume in future editions.
Films in competition
The 32nd edition of the Serra da Estrela International Festival of Environmental Cinema again featured a significant participation of films vying for the Official Selection – of the 410 works (fiction and documentary, national and international, in video, film or digital formats), 103 films from 34 countries were included: 86 works compete in the six competitive sections of CineEco’s official programming. Only in the International Selection of Feature Films, ten documentaries are world premieres in Portugal and portray relevant environmental narratives about economic models, the new challenges of environmental activism, climate apartheid, environmental migrations, species, habitats and resource exploitation across five continents.
