The Independent Union of Forest, Environment and Civil Protection Workers (SinFAP) promotes the National Campaign for the Recognition of the Rapid Fatigue of Volunteer Firefighters and Forest Firefighters, an initiative aimed at raising awareness among society and decision-makers about the need to recognize the physical and psychological wear inherent to performing these professions, the union said in a statement.
According to the same source, the campaign’s main objective is to collect 10,000 signatures on a public petition, allowing it to be considered autonomously in the Plenary of the Assembly of the Republic, giving the Deputies of the Nation the opportunity to examine this appeal and promote a fair solution for thousands of men and women who daily put their lives at the service of Portugal.
In a first phase, the campaign will travel to four cities across the country:
- Viseu
- Coimbra
- Abrantes
- Viana do Castelo
The campaign will begin in Viseu on August 3, marking the launch of a nationwide local outreach effort aimed at engaging with the population.

SinFAP calls for the participation of all citizens in this initiative. The recognition of these professionals represents an act of justice for those who, daily, protect lives, property, the forest and the national territory, the note concludes.
