Automaise, a Portuguese company specializing in artificial intelligence solutions and automation in customer service, is developing the project “Automaise Sustainable AI Platform”, an initiative supported by Portugal 2030, which aims to make its artificial intelligence platform more sustainable through the development of three technological modules. The project began in April 2024 and its completion is planned for September 30, 2026, as announced in a press release.
According to the same source, the initiative represents a new step in Automaise’s innovation strategy by integrating energy efficiency and environmental sustainability into the development of AI solutions. In a context where the increasing use of AI models raises challenges related to energy consumption and the carbon footprint, the company is betting on a differentiating approach, designed to reduce the environmental impact of these technologies without compromising their performance.
In this regard, Automaise positions itself in an emerging segment by incorporating sustainability and energy efficiency criteria from the design phase of its AI solutions. This approach allows environmental metrics to be integrated directly into the model development cycle, promoting more efficient, responsible technologies aligned with the energy challenges associated with the growing use of AI.
The three modules of the project
- Green LLM Engine – reduces carbon emissions associated with pre-training, fine-tuning and inference of language models (LLMs), through optimization of its architecture and reduction of the number of parameters required;
- Data-Centric Sampler – develops more efficient data samples, reducing the amount of information needed to train AI models without compromising their quality and performance;
- AI Carbon Emissions Calculator – quantifies the carbon footprint associated with training and using AI solutions, enabling organizations to monitor and reduce their environmental impact.
The vertical nature of Automaise’s platform allows the company to leverage already processed data to develop new methodologies capable of increasing the efficiency of AI models and reducing the consumption of computing resources.
“Since 2017 we have developed our platform with the aim of supporting organizations through increasingly efficient AI solutions. With this project, we continue along that path by integrating sustainability as one of the pillars of our technology. The future of artificial intelligence lies in finding a balance between innovation, performance and environmental responsibility, delivering solutions that meet the needs of companies without neglecting environmental challenges,” says Ernesto Pedrosa of Automaise.
The project involves a team of 12 professionals, including four new hires, and follows an agile methodology structured in five phases of research and development over 24 months. With this initiative, Automaise consolidates its position as a provider of AI-based solutions, expanding its presence in national and international markets, continuing its mission to democratize access to AI across different sectors of activity.
