University Students Vote Santander as the Best Bank to Work for in Portugal

March 12, 2026

Santander was elected by university students, for the second consecutive year, as the “Best Bank to Work in Portugal,” according to the Merco Talento Universitário 2025 ranking. Santander also rises to 11th position in the global ranking, which groups the 100 best-rated companies by students, as disclosed in a press release.

According to the same source, Merco Talento Universitário Portugal 2025 involved the participation of more than 1,000 university students and higher professional education students. From their responses, Merco concludes that when choosing the companies where they want to work, “young people increasingly value work-life balance, professional development and the reputation of companies.” It adds that “for organizations, it is a clear sign of the importance of investing in people, in culture and in work environments that promote growth and well-being.”

Recently, Santander was also recognized, for the fourth consecutive year, as Top Employer 2026 in Portugal by the Top Employers Institute. This certification distinguishes organizations that stand out for the best human resources policies and practices, evaluated in areas such as people strategy, work environment, talent attraction and retention, learning and development, health and well-being, diversity, equity and inclusion, among others.

With these recognitions, Santander “consolidates its position as one of the best companies to work for in Portugal, offering a differentiated value proposition to its employees,” which includes:

  • A global experience, with the possibility to participate in projects with international teams and mobility programs within the Santander Group;
  • Growth and development opportunities, through the promotion of internal mobility and local and global development programs;
  • Our own training academy – the Dojo, which provides more than 18,000 digital resources focused on the development of critical skills;
  • A strong focus on well-being and work-life balance. Santander is a Family-Responsible Company (EFR) – with an excellence level, certified by the Másfamilia Foundation, counting more than 80 measures of support for employees;
  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, through the creation and management of employee-led communities and the integration of people with disabilities.
