These Animals Represent Countries: Can You Guess Which Ones?

February 8, 2026

There are more than 8 million animal species across the planet, and all of them are part of your story, contributing to the proper functioning of ecosystems. Although many species have been and continue to be driven to extinction by humans, there are some especially valued that for various reasons have been considered symbols of a nation.

From endemic species to those with historical and spiritual value for the country — all of them have a meaning that sets them apart from the others. We present nine countries and the animals that represent them:

  • Canada — American beaver (Castor canadensis)
  • United States — Bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)
  • Australia — Red kangaroo (Osphranter rufus) and Australian emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae)
  • China — Giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca)
  • Madagascar — Ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta)
  • New Zealand — Kiwi (Apteryx)
  • Algeria — Fennec fox (Vulpes zerda)
  • France — Gallic rooster (Gallus gallus)
  • India — Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris)

Browse through the gallery to get to know each of the species mentioned.
