The President of the Republic today underscored the importance of public policies that ensure access to drinking water and prevent its losses, and called for a collective commitment to its “efficient, fair and sustainable use”.
In a message on the occasion of National Water Day, published on the official site of the Presidency of the Republic on the Internet, António José Seguro states that “there are already identified, through expert studies and reports from the competent entities, some permanent imbalances between the available water and the water consumed in Portugal”.
“The President of the Republic takes this day to remind the importance of adopting and maintaining public policies that care for this essential good, guarantee access to drinking water and avoid its losses, ensure its rational use for economically useful purposes and address the need for its treatment and reuse,” reads the note.
The head of state affirms that “Portugal has the good fortune of having precious natural water resources, but also the responsibility to take proper care of them”.
“All together, citizens, companies and the various economic sectors, must be committed to an efficient, fair and sustainable use of water. On this National Water Day, it is worth recalling that taking care of water is guaranteeing everyone’s future,” adds António José Seguro.
