Guimarães European Green Capital and Versa Group Formalize Partnership

February 13, 2026

Guimarães 26 – European Green Capital formalized a strategic partnership with Grupo Versa, which will take on the role of main sponsor. The agreement was officialized at a ceremony held at the Laboratório da Paisagem, in the presence of the president of the Guimarães City Council, Ricardo Araújo, the president of Grupo Versa, Daniel Carvalho, and the rest of the Guimarães 26 leadership, as announced in a press release.

According to the same source, this collaboration “strengthens Guimarães’ ambition to consolidate a path of European leadership in urban sustainability, promoting solutions that accelerate the environmental transition, territorial innovation and responsible economic development, with real impact on the quality of life of the Vimaranenses”.

A commitment by the territory, with shared responsibility

During the session, the Mayor of the municipality, Ricardo Araújo, underscored the relevance of having a Vimaranense main sponsor, noting that “this is a clear sign that the project is from the territory – from the people, the institutions and the companies – which is built with involvement and shared responsibility”.

“When I say that we want this to be the best European Green Capital ever, I say it with ambition, with responsibility, with determination and with confidence. Confidence in the people, in the institutions, in the companies and in Guimarães’ ability to be a city that adds value, mobilizes communities and assumes the quality of life of its citizens as an indicator of success,” he added.

The partnership with Grupo Versa, with activity in areas such as health and well-being, industry and new technologies, real estate and requalification, represents also a relevant contribution to mobilize local capacities and boost projects that leave a mark beyond 2026.

Sustainability

Guimarães 26 has as a priority to ensure that the title of European Green Capital 2026 translates into measurable and lasting results, strengthening the community, the business fabric and the European positioning of Guimarães.

The president of Grupo Versa, Daniel Carvalho, framed this participation as “a choice aligned with new development models and with the idea that sustainability is, today, a decisive factor of resilience, innovation and competitiveness, reinforcing the commitment to build solutions with real impact”.

Guimarães 26 continues to work so that 2026 is more than a symbolic milestone and can signify a turning point in the municipality’s path of sustainable transformation – with projects, participation and partnerships that contribute to a long-term legacy.
