Greenvolt has secured financing of €284 million for the construction of a 253.1 MW wind farm in the Gurbanesti district, east of Bucharest, with completion expected in 2027, announced today by the group.
In a statement, the Greenvolt renewable energy group said it was “one of the largest of its kind in the country”.
The project comprises 42 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6.1 MW, aiming to add a “significant capacity for renewable energy production” and contribute to the decarbonization of the Romanian power system.
The financing was arranged with a syndicate of UniCredit S.p.A., Erste Group Bank AG, Banca Comercială Română S.A., Siemens Financial Services, via Siemens Bank, Société Générale, BRD, ING Bank N.V. and Alpha Bank S.A.
Quoted in the document, the group’s Chief Executive Officer, João Manso Neto, noted that Romania “is an important market for Greenvolt,” where wind energy “has been a particular area of focus.”
Adrian Góralski, head of M&A and Project Finance at Greenvolt Power, said the financing reflects the group’s ability to find suitable solutions.
In Romania, the Greenvolt Group holds a portfolio of ‘utility-scale’ projects totaling 707 MW of wind energy, 58 MW of solar, and 209 MW of battery energy storage projects.
The company also operates in the distributed generation segment, providing local renewable energy solutions to business clients through Greenvolt Next.
Greenvolt is integrated into KKR’s portfolio and is a 100% renewable energy group, with operations in 20 countries across Europe, North America and Asia, developing renewable solutions in sustainable biomass, ‘utility-scale’ and distributed generation.
