APREN – Portuguese Association of Renewable Energies will host the inaugural edition of the Portugal Energy Storage Forum (#PESF2026), a new event born with the ambition to become the leading national forum dedicated to energy storage. The meeting will take place on March 24, 2026, in the Small Auditorium of Culturgest, in Lisbon, as disclosed in a press release.
According to the same source, this event will bring together the main public decision-makers, regulators, project promoters, investors, grid operators, and technology companies. The objective is to create a strategic debate space on central sector topics, including the flexibility needs of the electrical system, the State Aids for energy storage, the electrification of the competitive industry, the Grids Package and the impacts on the energy sector, as well as the “bankability” of projects and grid congestion.
Pedro Amaral Jorge, President of APREN, states: “In a decisive moment for the energy transition in Portugal, it is essential that energy storage and the flexibility of the electric system take a central place in national priorities. More than simply recognizing this challenge, it is important to mobilize decision-makers, investors and network operators to unlock the full potential of the sector and prepare the infrastructure for the future. It is in this framework that the Portugal Energy Storage Forum is born, as a meeting and reflection space dedicated to these topics.”
The program features the participation of several specialists and leaders from the national and European sector. The opening session will be led by Pedro Amaral Jorge (President of APREN), followed by debates and presentations that will include names such as Patrick Clerens (Energy Storage Europe), João Peças Lopes (FEUP), Pedro Carvalho (Instituto Superior Técnico), Tim Schittekatte (FTI Consulting & Florence School of Regulation) and Ignacio Cobo (AFRY).
The panel of invited speakers further includes representatives from entities such as the European Commission, ACER, ERSE, REN, E-Redes, WindEurope and SolarPower Europe.
