Algarve Tourism Recognized for Smart & Green Tourism

February 27, 2026

The Algarve Tourism was selected to join the group of distinguished entities bearing the recognition “Smart & Green Tourism”, an award granted within the scope of the V Conference Smart & Green Tourism and the celebrations of Ambitur’s 35th anniversary, which aim to value organizations with a track record and a consistent contribution in the field of sustainability in tourism, as disclosed in a press release.

According to the same source, the distinction aims to recognise entities that, along their trajectory, demonstrate a commitment to sustainable practices, environmental and social responsibility, and to the responsible evolution of Portugal’s tourism sector, reinforcing the importance of an increasingly integrated approach to the management and promotion of destinations.

The award ceremony took place this Friday, February 27, at FIL – Parque das Nações, within the scope of BTL 2026, bringing together institutional entities, companies and protagonists of national tourism.

For André Gomes, President of Algarve Tourism, “this distinction constitutes a meaningful recognition of the work carried out by the region in promoting more responsible and sustainable tourism, and reinforces the importance of continuing to consolidate good practices that protect the territory, value the communities and enhance the experience of those who visit us.”

Turismo do Algarve marks this recognition as a stimulus to continue deepening the destination’s sustainability agenda, in coordination with municipalities, companies and regional and national partners, promoting an evolution that combines competitiveness, environmental preservation and a positive impact on local communities.
