IRIN Radio: training for Angolan NGO staff on radio-production skills

? IRIN Radio

In September 2003 IRIN organised two courses in Luanda, Angola, to teach basic radio journalism skills and how to use a mini-disc recorder to capture audio for radio. The courses were attended by 20 participants who came from 12 of Angola's 18 provinces. All of the participants work for NGOs which have agreed to form partnerships with IRIN Radio. The participants will now be leant recording equipment to take back to the provinces where they work. In the course of their normal work in the communities for their NGOs, they will also record interviews and sound effects for IRIN. This material will be incorporated into IRIN's radio programmes, "giving voice" to vulnerable sectors of the population which have hitherto had few means of making their views heard.
