UGANDA: Anti-AIDS drug trade opened by government
JOHANNESBURG, 20 Feb 2004 (PLUSNEWS) - Uganda has allowed private pharmaceutical companies to procure antiretroviral drugs on the international market, the Ministry of Health has said.
However, Dr Elizabeth Namagala, the ministry's focal person for antiretroviral therapy, emphasised that the move would not allow quality or standards to be compromised.
She was quoted by a local newspaper, New Vision, as saying: "We have allowed the private sector to import antiretroviral drugs and related products, as long as they conform to the National Drug Authority (NDA) guidelines."
Namagala warned companies against importing sub-standard drugs.
