Sudan: President Bashir attends inaugural ceremony of Somali new leader

OMDURMAN, 27 Aug 2000 (Sudan TV) - The president of the republic, Staff Lt-Gen Umar al-Bashir, and an accompanying delegation, attended the inaugural ceremony of the new Somali president, Abd al-Qasim Salad [Hasan], which took place this morning in Arta town, in Djibouti...

The ceremony was attended by the presidents of Ethiopia, Djibouti and Eritrea, and representatives of other countries and regional and international organizations. The celebration included the inaugural ceremony and the swearing in of the new president. President Abd al-Qasim Salad received the Somali flag and a military salute. National songs were also sung to express happiness at the occasion.
