RWANDA: Gates funds AIDS training centre
Microsoft founder Bill Gates is to establish a training facility for health professionals working with AIDS in Africa's Great Lakes region.
During a brief visit to Rwanda recently, Gates pledged US$900,000 towards the new centre, which he said would boast state-of-the-art medical equipment.
Doctor Agnes Binagwaho, executive secretary of Rwanda's National AIDS Commission, welcomed Gates' contribution as a long-term AIDS intervention in the region.
Reuters quoted Binagwaho as saying, "Such support from well-wishers will go a long way in helping developing countries achieve much in the war against the [pandemic]."
