NAMIBIA: Govt addresses issue of deteriorating healthcare
Namibia's Ministry of Health has expressed concern over the deteriorating level of patient care in public hospitals and clinics.
Health Minister Richard Kamwi attributed the lowered standards of care to insufficient personnel and the effect of HIV/AIDS on morale.
The Namibian newspaper quoted Kamwi as saying, "We are experiencing that patients stay in hospitals longer because of HIV and the beds are getting overcrowded. In turn, nurses get overburdened because of staff shortages."
He said a special permanent committee, to be chaired by the Deputy Minister of Health, Petrina Haingura, had been set up to address the issue.
