RWANDA: AIDS campaign launched in schools and universities
Rwanda's ministry of education has launched a new six-month campaign to tackle HIV/AIDS in schools and universities.
Education minister Romain Murenzi said the initiative aimed to develop new ways of raising HIV/AIDS awareness among the estimated 60,000 students and teachers at higher education institutions throughout the country.
The local New Times newspaper quoted him as saying: "If we don't take a tough stance against the AIDS pandemic, then the future of this country is at risk."
The programme will use weekly radio talk shows and mobile vans to disseminate audio and visual messages.
