LIBERIA: Cash injection for AIDS, TB and malaria

Under an agreement signed between the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and Liberia's Ministry of Health, the country is set to receive US $24.3 million to assist its fight against HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases.

The funds will be used for the counselling and treatment of people living with HIV/AIDS and to support Liberia's anti-malaria and tuberculosis programmes, UNDP resident representative Abou Moussa said.

Research shows the country has an HIV/AIDS prevalence rate of 12 percent, while tuberculosis fatalities and deaths from malaria, especially among children, have surged.
