MALAWI: Soon-to-be ex President launches AIDS foundation
A new HIV/AIDS initiative by soon-to-be former Malawian President Bakili Muluzi aims to "consolidate" current efforts to address the pandemic.
The president said the Bakili Muluzi AIDS Foundation was launched "to make a small contribution towards the global fight against HIV/AIDS".
"I am going into retirement and into the private sector, where I belong, to vigorously and actively participate in the fight against AIDS," Muluzi was quoted by Reuters as saying.
Earlier this year Muluzi was publicly tested for HIV, and recently announced that his brother had died of AIDS-related causes.
