RWANDA: Increased US support for HIV/AIDS

US Treasury Undersecretary John Taylor, has announced that the US government would accelerate aid to Africa's efforts in tackling the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

The undersecretary is currently on a four-nation visit in Africa, to evaluate the success and impact of projects funded by the World Bank and the African Development Bank.

During a recent press conference in Rwanda's capital, Kigali, Taylor told reporters that the US was also looking at ways of accelerating funding for World Bank projects to ensure that they worked even better than they had been.

Taylor said: "HIV/AIDS is a problem which has to be addressed now. We would like the World Bank to move more aggressively."
