LIBERIA: Liberian women battle against HIV/AIDS
Liberian women have been encouraged to empower themselves against HIV/AIDS, local newspaper The News reported on Thursday.
"Many women and girls have become sexually vulnerable due to the economic hardships, and are this way exposed to HIV infection," mayor for the capital Monrovia, Ophelia Hoff-Saytumah said.
She urged women to become more actively involved with the HIV/AIDS battle in order to protect themselves.
Hoff-Saytumah also appealed for international assistance, adding that a lack of resources had created setbacks in the country's HIV/AIDS campaign efforts.
