AFRICA: African First Ladies launch new campaign in UN General Assembly to fight AIDS
JOHANNESBURG, 20 Sep 2005 (PLUSNEWS) - The Organisation of African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA) have unveiled a new campaign in New York, aimed at preventing HIV/AIDS among young people.
With the protection of orphans and children as a first step, the goal of the 'Treat Every Child as Your Own' campaign is to prevent new infections among young people and educate adults about how to protect children, Reuters reported.
Janet Kagame, wife of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, stressed that stigma, secrecy, fear and taboo have contributed to the spread of the virus, with the result that many infected people failed to seek treatment.
