UGANDA: Transport system to drive AIDS message home
JOHANNESBURG, 19 Jan 2005 (PLUSNEWS) - Uganda's AIDS Control Programme (UACP) has announced plans to use public transport systems to distribute condoms and HIV/AIDS awareness messages.
According to UACP national coordinator, Julius Byenkya, minibus-taxi and riverboat operators will be trained to educate their passengers.
Audio-recordings of educational dramas and entertaining serial programmes with an educational message will also be played during the journey.
Agence France-Presse quoted Byenkya as saying: "The main focus is about behavioural change, because it seems the majority of people know about HIV/AIDS, but many have failed to change their behaviour."
