UGANDA: Authorities defend free condom brand
JOHANNESBURG, 5 Oct 2004 (PLUSNEWS) - Uganda's National Drug Authority (NDA) has defended the quality of Engabu, its free condom brand, according to a local newspaper, The Monitor.
Engabu's safety and quality were highlighted at a recent HIV/AIDS workshop in the capital, Kampala, where experts said the condoms were questionable as an effective prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
However, an NDA statement said quality checks were conducted soon after the complaints against the safety of Engabu were filed. "No complaints have been received again about any quality issues, nor is there any evidence to date of any problems with its quality."
