YouthNet, a Family Health International, has released Youth InfoNet No. 10, a monthly source of new publications and information on youth reproductive health and HIV prevention. This issue provides an update to the 2002 YouthNet publication, 'New Resources Available on Youth Reproductive Health and HIV Prevention, YouthLens No. 1'. Youth InfoNet 10 summarizes 18 major resources on global issues published from 2002-04 and offers a "South-to-South" resource, with eight recent publications from Asia and the Near East that may provide lessons for other regions.

A training course on the 'Essentials of HIV/AIDS Programme Planning' will be held from 28 February - 5 March 2005 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Using case studies, group exercises and site visits, this course is designed to build capacity at the country level for the management of expanded resources for HIV/AIDS. It will assist programme managers to formulate intervention strategies for HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment; to address priorities for rapid scale-up; to use evidence-based approaches to inform programming decisions; and to establish systems for strategic information, including surveillance, targeted evaluation, and operations research.

This course is targeted at individuals with new responsibility for HIV/AIDS programme design, management and implementation; those involved in the rapid scale-up of HIV/AIDS care, treatment, and prevention programmes, and HIV/AIDS programme managers for NGOs, faith-based organisations and community-based organisations. Managers of public or private sector programmes, members of networks of people living with HIV/AIDS and donor representatives are also invited to attend.

Sexual Health Exchange is a quarterly newsletter on HIV prevention and sexual health in developing countries, aimed at professionals in the field of HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health. The publication is calling for articles and information for its forthcoming issue on programmatic and policy responses to the special needs of marginalised populations.

The current print-run of Sexual Health Exchange is 27,000, the majority of which are distributed in Africa (60 percent) and Asia (20 percent). Articles are short (max. 1,200 words), easy to read and should be based on evidence, either from practice, research or other reliable sources.

The next issue (first quarter 2005) will focus on successful and innovative responses and approaches. What programmes, policies and approaches can be regarded as good practice and what lessons can be learned?

If you would like to contribute to this issue, send contact details and a short description of what you would like to discuss in your article to the Editor before 25 October 2004. After this deadline, all potential authors will receive writing guidelines and suggestions for a thematic focus to avoid overlap and make sure that the whole issue will be geographically and thematically balanced. Deadline for article submissions is 8 December 2004. After this deadline a definitive selection of articles will be made by a team of editors.

For the second year in a row, MTV and OneWorld are organising a global competition in the run-up to World AIDS Day on 1 December 2004.

The competition is for young people to submit audio or video public service announcements (PSAs) that convey the messages of MTV's award-winning HIV/AIDS awareness campaign, Staying Alive (www.staying-alive.org). This year entrants can unleash their creativity by developing clips on the theme of women, girls and HIV/AIDS.

Winning clips in two categories (one audio and one video) will be streamed on the Staying Alive site, made available to all 26 local MTV web sites and will be featured on the OneWorld Radio and TV websites. The winners will also receive the Staying Alive 2004 Award, an honour given each year to an individual who makes an important contribution to HIV/AIDS awareness.
