The purpose of this fixed-term post is to support the advocacy, media and information activities of UNAIDS and its co-sponsors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support the development, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of advocacy strategy and develop a work plan identifying priority actions as well as new advocacy opportunities in coordination with the cosponsors advocacy focal points
• Coordinate regional sharing of information with co-sponsors, NGOs and other partners IN advocacy and communication OF focal points
• In collaboration the UNAIDS Secretariat, Advocacy Unit, provide support to UN country teams for the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of advocacy strategies
• Develop a technical support platform for media, including a contact list of top reporters and media outlets, with health/medical reporters or editors for daily and weekly newspapers, radio networks, news programmes, television programmes, news and health magazines, a list of media trainers and training programmes, and support the collection and development of resources for journalists
• Undertake a range of media duties, including drafting and implementing a media plan for UNAIDS, regular media liaison, generating news coverage of HIV-related issues in the media, organising press conferences and regular briefings of key journalists and foreign correspondents covering HIV/AIDS, arranging appropriate media/opinion leader meetings for local and visiting UNAIDS officials, and identifying and pitching stories to local and international media on HIV/AIDS in selected countries in the ESA region
• Provide support for the information and media activities of the SAY TTS Project
• Provide daily news clips on HIV/AIDS from ESA region for insertion Today's News
• Manage the production and dissemination of UNAIDS-supported publications, including the production of a monthly news bulletin and other information notices for distribution to partners in the region
• Advocacy Unit Work with the Advocacy Unit in Geneva to support the global advocacy agenda of UNAIDS, and to assist UN country team with the development advocacy strategies in support of their work

REQUIREMENTS:

• A minimum of 8 years' experience in HIV/AIDS, including experience in the UN System, experience of advocacy, communications and media relations relation to ESA
• Substantial knowledge of UNAIDS co-sponsors, governmental and non-governmental agencies, especially in developing countries
• Experience in providing programmatic technical support in policy and strategy development related to HIV/AIDS, with a focus on advocacy and media
• Some experience in quantitative and qualitative research pertaining to advocacy and media
• Knowledge of computer applications, such Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• A master's degree in Communications with appropriate experience of HIV- and AIDS-related issues
• Ability to develop programmes and assist UNAIDS Country Coordinators, as well as provide advocacy and guidance on training and service development. Substantial knowledge of UNAIDS co-sponsors, governmental and non-governmental agencies and bilaterals in the region
• Ability to advocate and communicate effectively, orally and in writing
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across cultures and disciplines in a team and with staff of different organisations

The University of Cape Town requires a Projects and Office Manager for the HIV/AIDS Unit (based in the Student Development and Services Department), a two-year contract post for appointment as soon as possible.

The unit is involved in education and training around HIV/AIDS of students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Project Management
• Staff Management
• Developing HIV/AIDS education and training programmes for various departments (academic curriculum and co-curriculum)

REQUIREMENTS:

• At least 5 years' people and project management experience, preferably in an HIV/AIDS organisation environment
• At least 5 years' HIV/AIDS research, materials development or training suitable for an academic community. A postgraduate qualification would be recommended.
