Like all sectors of the Ugandan economy, the fisheries sector has not been spared the scourge of HIV/AIDS. The purpose of this study is to go beyond perceptions of fisher-folk as high-HIV-risk categories, understand the dynamics of inland small-scale fishing communities' livelihoods, and map their contexts of vulnerability, in order to design operational responses that effectively support these groups and, in doing so, influence relevant policy platforms.

The MARC research trainee programme places black postgraduates in its units and groups. Black candidates with a four-year degree or equivalent, or a Master's degree, can apply for a research training internship position with a MARC research unit or group. Research trainees who register for a master's or doctoral degree can renew their appointment for a second and third year, subject to their satisfactory performance.

LoveLife, South Africa's anti-AIDS youth programme, has announced the launch of an uncut version of its popular HIV/AIDS edutainment magazine, S'camto. In pursuit of a vision of an AIDS-free South Africa, the new version, S'camtoUNCUT, aims to be more direct, blunt at times, and talks straight to today's youth in their language.

The London-based HIV/AIDS information charity, NAM, together with aidsmap.com and the electronic newsletter, "HIV and AIDS Treatment in Practice", have launched a major new resource, "Treating HIV and AIDS: A Training Toolkit".
The training toolkit was designed to provide basic training in HIV/AIDS treatment and care for health care workers in resource-limited settings, to support the safe and effective introduction of antiretroviral therapy. The toolkit was developed with the support of doctors providing training on antiretroviral drugs in Botswana, Kenya and South Africa.
