1. Senior HIV and AIDS Advisor (ZHAP/JSI)

The Zimbabwe HIV and AIDS Programme (ZHAP), managed by John Snow International (UK), has an immediate opening for a Senior HIV and AIDS Advisor.

The incumbent's primary tasks will be to manage programme-funded grants, including providing technical assistance regarding planning and implementation, and monitoring and evaluating the achievement of programme outputs.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Postgraduate degree/work in public health-related disciplines, psychology, sociology, or equivalent areas is required. Significant coursework and/or research related to sexual and reproductive health and/or HIV/AIDS is highly desirable.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible management experience with public or private sector organisations in HIV/AIDS, including the design, management, monitoring and evaluation of HIV/AIDS programmes, is required.
  • Fluent oral and written proficiency in the English language is required.
    A fluent level of proficiency in at least one local Zimbabwean language is also required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer word processing and financial and/or data analysis software applications is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required, including the ability to work in a team setting and maintain effective relationships with a wide variety of governmental and NGO professionals at all levels of Zimbabwean society.

2. United Nations Integrated Regional Information Networks - Southern Africa

PlusNews HIV/AIDS Journalist/Information Officer

An exciting opportunity exists for a young journalist with a thorough knowledge of HIV/AIDS issues to join the PlusNews service of the United Nations Integrated Regional Information Network (IRIN) office in Johannesburg. [www.plusnews.org].

Candidates must be able to produce well-researched stories, written with flair and sensitivity, that give a voice to those affected by HIV and AIDS. The successful candidate will be pro-active, a self-starter, and with strong analytical skills. A good knowledge of the Southern African region would be an advantage. The successful candidate must be resident in South Africa.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The post entails:

Writing of accurate and informative copy; researching trends and issues for comprehensive special reports; undertaking reporting assignments to countries within Africa; liasing with other UN agencies, media, and NGO networks to improve the flow of information on HIV/AIDS; developing country profiles of selected countries; working on special projects as directed by IRIN management.

QUALIFICATIONS

You will be a fully trained journalist with a university degree or equivalent and a minimum of three years experience writing for a newspaper, news agency, magazine or radio station.
