PlusNews HIV/AIDS Journalist/Information Officer
An exciting opportunity exists for a young journalist with a thorough
knowledge of HIV/AIDS issues to join the PlusNews service of the United
Nations Integrated Regional Information Network (IRIN) office in
Johannesburg. [www.plusnews.org].
Candidates must be able to produce well-researched stories, written with
flair and sensitivity, that give a voice to those affected by HIV and
AIDS. The successful candidate will be pro-active, a self-starter, and
with strong analytical skills. A good knowledge of the Southern African
region would be an advantage. The successful candidate must be resident in
South Africa.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The post entails:
Writing of accurate and informative copy; researching trends and issues
for comprehensive special reports; undertaking reporting assignments to
countries within Africa; liasing with other UN agencies, media, and NGO
networks to improve the flow of information on HIV/AIDS; developing
country profiles of selected countries; working on special projects as
directed by IRIN management.
QUALIFICATIONS
You will be a fully trained journalist with a university degree or
equivalent and a minimum of three years experience writing for a
newspaper, news agency, magazine or radio station.
