Coimbra Local Health Unit Creates Outdoor Smoking Areas on Its Premises

November 12, 2025

The Local Health Unit (ULS) of Coimbra has launched a tender worth over 340 thousand euros (excluding VAT) to create smoking areas in the outdoor spaces of its various health campuses.

According to the announcement published on Monday in the Official Journal, the intervention has a base price of 344 thousand euros, with an execution period of 180 days after the award.

This tender is part of the public health program “ULS Coimbra Without Tobacco”, which aims to create smoke-free environments, reduce passive exposure to tobacco, and protect the health of patients, professionals, and visitors, promoting healthy lifestyles.

“In this context, a regulation was created that was open to public discussion and provides for the definition of specific and delineated zones for smokers in the outdoor spaces of the ULS of Coimbra, ensuring that these do not interfere with the circulation zones of patients and professionals,” explained a source from the communications office.

According to the same source, the specific location of the smoking areas was defined based on a technical opinion from the Department of Installations and Equipment, the Department of Operations and Sustainability, and the Occupational Health Service of the institution.

The deadline for submission of proposals ends on December 4.
