AFRICA: Botswana and Ethiopia joint AIDS effort
JOHANNESBURG, 3 March (PLUSNEWS) - Ethiopia and Botswana, two African countries hard hit by HIV/AIDS, have agreed to cooperate in tackling the pandemic.
Botswana President Festus Mogae is currently on a four-day visit to Ethiopia to boost bilateral relations and engage in talks about the disease.
Mogae told reporters that the joint effort would focus on the key areas of voluntary testing and antiretroviral treatment.
UNAIDS estimates that over 35 percent of Botswana's 1.6 million people are HIV-positive, while Ethiopia has the 16th-highest prevalence rate in the world.
