UGANDA: News scholarship fund for HIV-positive youth
[ This report does not necessarily reflect the views of the United Nations]
JOHANNESBURG, 11 November (PLUSNEWS) - Young people living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda will benefit from a UNAIDS scholarship fund, to be launched on World AIDS Day, 1 December 2003.
The theme of this year's World AIDS Day is "Celebrate Youth, Celebrate Life: Africa United Against Stigma and Discrimination."
UNAIDS resident coordinator in Uganda, Reuben Del Prado, said although the number of beneficiaries was not yet known, the scholarship fund was aimed at changing the face of HIV/AIDS in Uganda.
In a recent interview with a local newspaper, The Monitor, Del Prado said: "The message has been that HIV/AIDS is death. The face of HIV/AIDS can also be a bright future."
He said UNAIDS expected to maintain the new scholarship fund with contributions from various donors and organisations.
