Malawi's government has set itself a major challenge this year, announcing plans to more than double the number of people receiving antiretroviral (ARV) drugs to half a million by the end of 2010.

Adhiambo*, 24, conscientiously followed her health worker's advice when she was pregnant with her third child. She attended antenatal visits, was tested for HIV and found negative, and delivered her baby at the local health centre.

Minibus-taxi drivers are regarded as a necessary evil in Swaziland. Although they provide a much needed service, their dangerous driving, rude and often violent behaviour has given them a bad reputation and made it difficult to reach them with HIV/AIDS services.

The TB Conference will be a forum for people of diverse backgrounds, experiences and skills to come together to review the evidence and to debate and develop innovative approaches to fight the TB epidemic in the era of HIV. 2. Positive Prevention Toolkit - University of California San Francisco

This Toolkit was created to assist health care providers and counsellors in delivering effective Positive Prevention messages during their routine interactions with HIV-infected clients. It includes valuable curricula, reports and other resources developed by respected organizations involved in HIV prevention and care throughout the world, but especially in Southern Africa.

VACANCIES

1. Finance and Administration Specialist, HIV/AIDS, Save the Children Alliance - Washington DC, the United States of America

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the HIV/AIDS budgeting and financial management and administration functions for the team under the oversight of the Associate Director;

  • Support HIV/AIDS grants;

  • Develop proposal budgets;

  • Support travel, communications and team administrative needs;

  • Coordinate with other departments in Washington and Westport.


Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or equivalent;

  • 3-5 years of experience supporting international projects, financial and/or administrative systems;

  • Strong experience in budget management and development required;

  • Ability to develop and manage tracking and reporting systems;

  • Proven experience with proposal development;

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communications skills;

  • Proven organizational skills and attention to detail required.

2. Internship focused on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identities (SOGI) and HIV, The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria - Switzerland

Responsibilities:

  • Development of summary tables of data from Round 10 HIV proposals;

  • Development of a first draft report of data from Rounds 10;

  • Development of further drafts based on feedback from the supervisor and Internal Gender Task team;

  • The identification of successful and unsuccessful case studies;

  • The development of a final analytical report, inputs to presentations and case studies.


Qualifications:

  • University degree focused on public health; International development; public affairs; international politics; human rights; gender studies; queer studies; sexualities studies or related area.

  • Masters degree focused on public health; international development; public affairs; international politics; human rights; gender studies; queer studies; sexualities studies or related area desirable;

  • Some experience in a project support function at national or international level with substantial experience in writing in English;

  • Experience or exposure working on HIV and/or with one of the focus communities (MSM, transgender/sex worker);

  • Experience in generating Excel spreadsheets, and in creating PowerPoint presentations.
