The updated design, and a more robust database-driven structure, combined with closer multimedia integration are designed to meet the needs of PlusNews' current audience and to appeal to new readers worldwide.
The new site includes extensive news and analysis in English, French and Portuguese, as well as first-person testimones (Hear our Voices), audio reports, videos, background facts and country profiles, resources for media professionals, and a handy calendar of events.
PlusNews was set up in 2001 to improve the flow of accurate and accessible coverage of HIV and AIDS; strengthen media advocacy; encourage the sharing of research and best practice; highlight responses from governments, civil society and international organisations; and promote the voices of those infected and affected.
PlusNews is the leading provider of original specialist reporting on HIV and AIDS in Africa, and is branching into coverage of the pandemic in Asia and the Middle East, and soon countries in Central America and the Caribbean. It has also provided additional specilised coverage of HIV/AIDS in emergency situations.
A service from the UN's IRIN stable, PlusNews provides original, user-friendly reporting on the pandemic through a network of experienced journalists via internet, TV and radio.
