1. New YouthNet publications
Family Health International's global youth programme YouthNet has recently launched the following publications:
- Adolescents: Orphaned and Vulnerable in a Time of AIDS
These publications address the needs of adolescent orphans, including secondary education, livelihood training, and reproductive health and HIV education and services, and include analysis, programme summaries, four case studies, and recommendations for action. Available at www.fhi.org
- New YouthLens Issues
The four-page research brief series that synthesises information on critical topics related to youth reproductive health and HIV prevention is available at www.fhi.org
- YouthLens 15. Early Marriage and Adolescent Girls. Girls at risk of child marriage and those already married experience greater disadvantages compared to unmarried girls or married young women. Even so, most programmes addressing adolescent reproductive health and HIV prevention have focused primarily on unmarried youth.
- YouthLens 16. Boys and Changing Gender Roles. A growing number of projects recognise the importance of working with boys and young men to change gender norms and at the same time affect behaviours related to reproductive health and HIV/AIDS.
- YouthLens 17. Creating Youth-Friendly Pharmacies. Research indicates that youth prefer pharmacies for contraceptive services, but more training and other efforts are needed to expand youth-friendly pharmacies beyond pilot projects in selected countries.
