1. EngenderHealth Director, HIV/STI
EngenderHealth, an international public health organisation, is looking for a HIV/STI director to build, maintain and enhance EngenderHealth's portfolio of HIV/STI activities and programmes throughout the world. This position is based in New York.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide strategic direction, technical/programmatic expertise and overall leadership to EngenderHealth's HIV/STI Programme
- Provide technical and programmatic guidance to country-based programme efforts and manage global activities designed to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS and other STIs
- Supervise New York-based HIV/STI staff and work closely with them, as well as the VP for Programmes, country managers, regional directors and other global programme managers to set programme priorities
- Ensure effective programme design, implementation and evaluation
- Document best practices, lessons learned and efforts at going to scale
- Secure funding for future HIV/STI projects at both the country and global level
This position is part of the Programme Management Team and the Director participates in decisions regarding programme priorities; strategic allocation of staff and other resources; monitoring, evaluation and reporting of the Programmes Division performance; and synthesis and dissemination of new knowledge and lessons learned from the Division overall.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate degree in public health/related discipline or professional degree in a health-related field
- 10-15 years' work experience in international HIV/STI programme design, implementation and evaluation. Technical expertise and programme experience in HIV/AIDS programming
- 5 years' experience in a managerial position with budget and supervisory responsibilities
- Broad-based knowledge of HIV/AIDS issues and programming, particularly in Africa and Asia
- Technical expertise in several of the following, as related to HIV/AIDS and other STIs: prevention, counselling and interpersonal communication; programme planning and implementation; client-provider interaction; gender sensitive programming; working with vulnerable populations; training; developing training and education materials; participatory planning methodologies; research; evaluation
- Proven track record for fund-raising, including proposal development and managing donor relations
- Excellent financial and human resource management skills and sound judgment
- Demonstrated leadership in working with technical advisors and technical experts, as well as collaborating with developing country counterparts in the governmental and NGO sectors
