1. USAID to host post-Bangkok meeting

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) is sponsoring a briefing on 5 August from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Betts Theatre, Marvin Centre, George Washington University (Washington, DC)

The briefing will discuss new developments in HIV/AIDS that emerged from the 15th International AIDS Conference held recently in Bangkok, Thailand.

2. "Essentials of HIV/AIDS Programme Planning" course

The Synergy Project is offering a regional "Essentials of HIV/AIDS Programme Planning" course in Accra, Ghana, from 25 to 30 October.

Funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the course is designed to build capacity at country level to manage expanded resources.

Participants will learn how to integrate a five-stage programming cycle of assessment, strategic planning, programme design, implementation monitoring, and evaluation of HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment interventions in the context of scaling up programmes to meet targets set by the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and other global initiatives.

3. USAID Updates Directory of HIV/AIDS Organisations

The US Agency for International Development (USAID), in collaboration with the Global Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS and the International Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS, this month released the 2004 edition of "Directory of Associations of People Living with HIV/AIDS".

This is a useful tool for advocacy, mobilisation and networking within the global HIV/AIDS community.

The directory lists more than 378 organisations worldwide.

4. Two new Southern African AIDS Trust Publications

The Southern African AIDS Trust (SAT), formerly "Southern African AIDS Training Programme" (a project of the Canadian International Development Agency implemented by the Canadian Public Health Association) has announced the release of two new publications: "How to plan and run a participatory workshop" and "Mainstreaming gender in HIV and AIDS work".

"How to plan and run a participatory workshop", the first in the series, intends to guide facilitators through the process of training.

"Mainstreaming gender in HIV and AIDS work" aims to build knowledge and practical skills among facilitators who train representatives of southern African ASOs, NGOs and CBOs in mainstreaming gender in their HIV and AIDS organisations, policies and programmes.
