2. HIV Research Trust Training scholarships
The HIV Research Trust Scholarship Scheme, has been launched by the HIV Research Trust and the International AIDS Society.
The role of the International AIDS Society (IAS) is to assist the HIV Research Trust to administer the research Scholarship scheme and assist in the selection of qualified participants, based on the identified eligibility and selection criteria.
This scholarship scheme, announced on 1 September, aims to support physicians, nurses, scientists and other healthcare professionals in resource-poor settings to acquire skills relevant to treatment-related research, in order to develop their careers and increase the capacity of their units to carry out research related to treatment and prevention.
This year the Trustees will choose potential recipients from the following Sub-Saharan countries:
Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Congo DR, Cote d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Swaziland, United Republic of Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
The scholarship scheme may be extended to other continents at a later stage.
The deadline for applications is 15 October 2005.
