KENYA: Global Fund okays AIDS grant
[This report does not necessarily reflect the views of the United Nations]
JOHANNESBURG, 28 April (PLUSNEWS) - The Global Fund on AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has agreed to new funding for Kenya despite the country's delay in submitting an audit for a first tranche.
Spokeswoman for the Fund, Rosie Vanek, said her organisation was currently negotiating the terms and conditions of the latest US $70 million three-year HIV/AIDS grant with Kenyan authorities.
The new finances represented a follow-up to a three-year $37 million grant which ended this year amid concerns of graft when the East African country failed to account for part of the funding its received in a previous round.
But Vanek told Reuters that there were no signs of funds being mismanaged or not accounted for.
