[This report does not necessarily reflect the views of the United Nations]
JOHANNESBURG, 16 August (PLUSNEWS) - The local production of anti-AIDS drugs will be high on the agenda at the Africa Regional meeting of the World Health Organisation (WHO) between 22 and 26 August in Mozambique's capital, Maputo.
Mozambican Ministry of Health spokesman Martinho Djedje noted that access to antiretrovirals was one of the main problems facing Africa.
The local news agency, AIM, quoted Djedje as saying, "The meeting will assess the degree of implementation of the existing programmes for [HIV/AIDS] prevention, in terms of recorded constraints and achievements".
Other issues to be discussed by about 600 participants from 46 countries are heart disease, tobacco consumption and leprosy.
